Herpes Treatments – What Is Available?

If you are an avid watcher of the medical world, you will know that many treatments have advanced in recent times. Treatments for sexual transmitted diseases especially have been the subject of intense research and development, as they are commonly affecting many people throughout the world.

Whilst this is a step in the right direction, the unfortunate fact is that more and more people are contracting is actually transmitted diseases. Obviously, this is not a good trend. The saying “prevention is the best treatment” certainly still stands here.

However, if you are unfortunate enough to contract and STD, it is not the end of the world. Whilst you may have to make a few lifestyle changes, you can generally continue doing the same things as before – with minimal disruption.

Cold Sore Treatment

Probably one of the most significantly improved areas of treatment is that of cold sores. Every day, millions of people will wake up, look in the mirror, and encounter one of those nasty bumps around their lips.

These days, you don't even need to go and see a doctor to treat this virus. A visit to your pharmacy will yield enough options to satisfy even the most discerning consumer.

Patches, creams, and a whole host of oinments will be able to assist in the healing of a cold sore. Admittedly, there is no treatment which will immediately remove a cold sore. However the clearing time can be improved by up to 50% with the specific treatments.

Treating Genital Herpes

Unfortunately, treating genital herpes can be a little more complex. This goes without saying, as the sexually transmitted version is a more complex virus in itself.

However, as with most medical situations these days, treatment is not possible.

Usually, if you are experiencing genital sores, you will be given a cream much like that to treat a cold sore on the lips. However, if the symptoms manifest themselves in places which are more difficult to reach, and orally administered medication may be needed. For this, you will need to consult your doctor, as the treatments can be quite harsh – and a prescription is needed for the majority of them.
